My son had heard about Lucy's, and suggested we hit them up for lunch. As soon as you step foot into the restaurant, you're hit in the nose with the blends of spices that is used in the foods, which is beyond welcoming for me. As a coffee nut, I had to order a cup of the bunna. It was black magic. They make it traditionally, by toasting the raw beans in a frying pan, grinding, and brewing it in a beautiful clay coffee pot. I had an Ethiopian chicken dish, while my son had a Liberian rice and chicken dish. Both were nothing short of spectacular. Understand, that the food takes time to cook, as it's all freshly prepared upon order, rather than nuked in a microwave and served up. I couldn't help, but give our host/chef a big hug before leaving, as my son and I both left absolutely satisfied, not grossly full, and still in awe, as to how incredible everything was.
All of the vegetables and legumes were jam packed with flavorful spices as well. The collard greens were delightfully spicy, the beets were tender and sweet, the cabbage/carrots gave me nostalgia of a Cajun dish, and my favorite, the lentils, were slightly spicy as well.
Incredible service. One of the most fun meals I've ever had. Come ready for a wonderful experience
I would give 10 stars if I could. I've been going here for years, and it never disappoints. Plenty of seating and parking out front. The family that runs it is friendly and helpful when ordering. If they have run out of a food item (rare) or you order dishes that don't go together we'll, they are ready with recommendations. As far as the foods goes, it is out of this world good. The seasoning and heat is perfect, and it's kinda fun to eat with your hands! I highly recommend the Lucy combo if it's your first time, it's an excellent sampling of their best dishes and it easily feeds 3 people.
This was truly a hidden gem. Loved it and the vegetarian sampler plate was amazing. I definitely would come back all the time if I lived here.
