Obviously this place is great. You need to make a reservation if going busy periods because it gets busy and the location is small. Took a friend from a different country and he loved it, especially the callaloo!.
I have to say with Sugarcane it's always a toss up. The food is usually good but the service...????. I waited maybe 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged me at the hostess desk. Gentlemen that worked there stood at the desk two times to answer the phone and never even asked if I needed help. Once my friend arrived we were seated right away although I was told there was about a 30 minute wait. 15 is excellent!!! Once we were seated no one came to even give us water. We waited maybe 15 and then flagged down on of the servers who assisted us. I had the fish tacos. Very good and I probably could have had as an entree because it was filling. My main course was the salmon with tamarind sauce. Pretty good. Then server checked on us once until we asked for our check. Music was good as usual.
I'm giving 3 instead of 5 because the wait time was extremely long we were told half an hour and waited over an hour, however when we were seated we received our meals pretty quickly. the food presentation is great however I feel once we were served we were being rushed a bit so they can seat other patrons. customer service was good but because the place is small I feel they monitor you really closely to move out quickly so not the place to go to if you want to socialize. we didn't even sit for 30-40 minutes and they were already asking us if we were ready for our check.
I've been going here for over 9yrs the food stays consistent. I stop short of 5 because the waiters can give better service. Or they need to hire more wait staff. Or maybe considering expanding the location. However its one of few places that is consistently good with the food. Very rarely can some restaurants keep up with the quality of the food and drinks.
