Before eating at Lucali, Brooklyn’s premiere pizzeria, you have to ask yourself: “Is it worth standing in sub-freezing weather for 45 min. after waiting an inordinate amount of time in a line to put your name on a list to be called, bring your own beer (or wine) and only be permitted one hour?”
The answer is yes, if you want to know how good pizza can be. The line began to form around 4:00 pm for someone to take your name at 5:00 pm for the first seating at 5:45 pm. Since Lucali has just a few tables, mostly for two, the line gives you a pretty good idea what your fate will be.
The secret is in the cheese, fresh and light as air. The calzone comes small or large. The pizza has but one size. Toppings include pepperoni, garlic, mushrooms, onions, etc. Basil is standard on all pizzas. This was an evening I will not soon forget. Worth the effort.
Amazing pizza! Best pizza I've had in NYC by far. Make sure you show up before 5pm to put your name on the list. Grab a drink and a bottle of wine and then come back when they call you.
Lives up to the hype! There seems to be a quite a few places that get lines forming prior to opening in NYC nowadays, not many are able to live up to the hype. Lucali's doesn't disappoint. Mark's pizza truly is the perfect harmony of dough, sauce and cheese all coming together to make something so familiar, yet so unique.
Worth the wait. The best pizza in NY. Authentic great location and the staff amazing. While it’s BYOB (wine). Understand that is part of the experience. Don’t miss this.
Only did take out but the pizza was delicious. The atmosphere looked very cozy inside. A bit overpriced in my opinion but definitely worth checking out. Cash only and BYOB
