I love this place! I read the reviews and thought, 'Can this place really be that good?' Answer: OMG yes!!! This is my new everything spot.
The couple who own and manage the restaurant are so lovely and kind. The food is largely inspired by the wife's family, who are Vietnamese. This is the BEST banh mi I've had in NYC in 9 years of living here! And I've had proper banh mi's in Vietnam... the banh mi's at Diem taste like the authentic, real-deal! The bread was soft and crispy, with a touch of buttery savoriness, and lots of fresh chicken and veggies inside. The portion size of the sandwich was also impressively large. 10/10!
The Viet Milk Coffee is a gem! It obviously has the traditional condensed milk in it, but it's not overly sweet, which I appreciate. A good balance of richness and flavorful espresso bean.
The owner encouraged me to try a free sample of the gelato. They rotate their flavors every week, with mango-flavor being the only constant. They always keep a vegan and sorbet option in the rotation also.
The restroom is the cutest freakin' bathroom in Brooklyn. The restroom is through a hidden arched doorway in the bookcase. And the restroom is spotlessly clean and well decorated. It's like a magical cozy place.
And yes, they have free wifi!
This place was so good! Probably one of the best Vietnamese food I’ve had in a while. Their ingredients are so fresh and the team in the kitchen puts a lot of love and effort into each dish. That being said, it did take some time for our food to arrive. But it was definitely worth the wait! The pictures of the food don’t do it justice. We ordered beef banh mj and the chicken noodle salad bowl. Both were excellent. Def a must try!!
It’s a great place in the neighborhood to get some light Vietnamese bites. The tofu bánh mì is delicious, with lightly grilled tofu steak, pickled radish and cilantro jalapeño sauce stuffed in a crispy baguette. The portion is big enough for my friend and me to share. We also get the green papaya salad with beef jerky, a very unique protein topping. If you like fish sauce, you will also enjoy their house made dressing.
A welcome addition to the neighborhood! Coffee was great. We enjoyed the Beef Bahn Mi and the Papaya Salad. Ingredients were so fresh and the Bahn Mi has a perfect bun, so delicious! The gelato is divine, we loved the lemon and coconut flavors!!!
Go welcome these folks to the neighborhood while they’re still in “soft open” mode. Great coffee, yummy Banh Mi sandwiches and GELATO! The staff is also super friendly.
