Food is good but it's not my cup of of tea
Found this little spot for breakfast. It took a while for the food to be made so it is definitely fresh. So if u want to eat this, make sure to allow extra time so u won't be late for work. The jiangbing is pretty big portion and they wrap it good too. I got the braised pork one n it was delicious. The spicy sauce for the cold noodles was very good too. Should definitely try it out. Don't really see this type of food here often. Usually its congee and steam rolls so it's good to get a little something different to surprised my taste buds.????
The restaurant is a classic hole in the wall. If you walk too fast you might miss it, although they have a bright, yellow sign to catch your eye if you look up.
The restaurant is very small with limited seating, however I find it to be very casual and cozy. Because it is so small, you get to see hour jianbing being made before your eyes. Also, the employee is always within range if you need them. The atmosphere is casual, but it is very clean and cute.
The food is also very good and very fast. Since it is made right in front of you, you really get to see what they do. I got the braised pork jianbing and it was very filling for the price. The sauce was good and it has a slight heat to it which I enjoyed (I usually dont like spicy foods)!
The staff was also very nice and very polite. Service was fast and professional. Overall i will definitely come back again for more! Highly recommend.
CHINA ????????
Eat the World NYC review:
Typically you might expect the peoples south of the Yangtze River to be more focused on rice dishes and rice noodles, but the proprietors of Jiang Nan Pancake have taken it upon themselves to change your mind. "Jiang Nan" traditionally refers to the geographical area just south of the far eastern reaches of the third longest river in the world, and far to the south of Shandong and Tianjin where you might find the origins of jianbing, the star of the menu here.
The connection between Shandong, China and Bretagne, France are immediate when you see the jianbing being prepared. The utensils may be a bit different, but the spreading of batter thin over a flat circular griddle is very similar. Toppings are added right on top as it cooks and when ready everything is folded together perfectly.
They offer a classic meatless jianbing for $4, a roast duck version for $9.50, and six other options in between. The wrapper is made from whole grain wheat flour and green bean, and in each "pancake" is egg, cilantro, scallion, lettuce, sesame, their house special sauce, and an ingredient translated as "crunch." This crispy layer is important, adding a nice contrast to the softness of the wrapper. When the jianbing arrived it appeared to be two pieces, but this is an intricate folding system and is all one unit.
I came here after the restaurant's menu was handed to me in the streets by a boy. I was on the hunt for lunch, so I decided to check out this three-week old restaurant. The shop sign was unfortunately obscured by the tree planted right in front and the shop was tightly seated, but the owners were friendly and we chatted up a storm while they prepared our food.
We ordered the pork floss jianbing, braised pork jianbing, pork noodle soup, and beef noodle soup. The jianbings were a little flimsy and couldn't stay together, but they tasted good. The broth used in the noodle soups were delicious, and their braised pork is seasoned so well.
Although it's a new restaurant, business was booming. There were several takeout orders while we sat in the restaurant, and clearly, they were from returning customers. Good food at reasonable prices- I will be returning!
