Solid, but not spectacular, chicken and waffles. The Maple old fashioned was alright, a little too sweet and not strong enough for an old fashioned. Friendly and efficient service. I'd definitely give this place another try.
Absolutely love going to this Friedman’s. Food and drinks are sooo good and the manager, Giovanni, makes you feel welcomed and at home.
PS: Writing this experience for food as a vegan.
One word: Disappointment. Friedman has been a staple for students and faculty around Columbia. My trips to this place has always been maybe this time it will be better. The lunch time rush is often crazy and they don't accept reservations unless it is a large party.
First time visit of this small, family-friendly restaurant. Had a brunch on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and the place was about 70~80% full already – seems to be a popular eatery for locals.
Food: the fried chicken & cheddar waffle was outstanding – the skin was crisp, non-greasy, tasty with just a pinch of spice while the inside was tender and moist. Pairing the savory fried chickens with hot cheddar waffle that was crispy outside and airy inside and you got an amazing dish! This is one of those dishes seems simple but actually is hard to perfect; in this case I think Firedman’s executes well and hits all the right notes.
Service: waiting staffs were courteous, professional and efficient. The wait-time between order placed (two main courses plus one side) and foods-on-the-table took about 20 minutes, which I consider it was reasonable.
Atmosphere: Given that this is a small restaurant with tight space, I won’t be surprised that the noise, or the energy level one might argue, could be high while it’s crowded. If you are looking for a bit quiet or intimate dining experience, then this place may not be suitable for you.
Price: For brunch menu, the pricing is reasonable. Majority of the items are around $15 plus/minus $3. Sides are within $6 plus/minus $2 range.
Cute restaurant decor. Outlets at almost every table, to plug your laptops or phones. Staff was super friendly. The gluten free menu is delicious. Looking forward to coming back again.
