I absolutely love this restaurant, it is definitely one of my favorites in the city. You simply cant go wrong with soul food. The shrimp and grits are really something else, they manage to get so much flavor into everything. The deviled eggs also, its a really interesting recipe, very different from any ones I'd had before, but it all works so well. Please come to such an amazing part of NYC!
I am writing this at home after one of the most amazing meals I've ever had. The flavors still lingering with me I cannot say enough how absolutely delicious every meal that was ordered at our table was. (Yes, I tasted them all!) The attention to detail in every part of this dining experience really made it a stand out that we'll remember.
For me personally the food was good, but not the best. No doubt that the fried chicken is very tasty, but for someone who does not like spicy food, I didn’t like the fried chicken very much. I rated 5 stars because the staff is friendly and the food is good and for those who like spicy food, this is the best place to eat at. In my opinion I believe Sylvia’s is better, but off course it differs from each persons preferences and points of view.
My review is for the night scene on Fridays and Saturdays...
I love that this place is in the city. They have African and hip hop music. The crowd is mature, you will see couples on the main floor and then on the lower level (where they have a club) you will find more singles... the lower level feels younger and more lounge-like but the music is louder and more hip hop is played. Main level is more sophisticated and smooth.
They have drinks at a average price, they have coat checks, it's not crowded to the point that it gets annoying, just about right. Cover fee for the LOWER level is $10 for girls and $20 for men. Main floor has no cover fee.
I think it's an excellent place to start the night, to jam to great African music, and to relax.
First time in Harlem as an adult and I didn't know what to expect. The Red Rooster is a gem in so much as the place was really, really cool. We sat at the bar and ordered up some non-traditional cocktails - they were great. I tried the deviled eggs - they were also great. However, for lunch we had their burger and the hot honey fried chicken - both were average at best.
