This subway entrance, and the ensuing tunnel to the 191st Street subway station, is quite interesting. For starters, the entrance is labeled as I. R. T. Subway Station, hearkening back to the day when the subway system was run by private companies. The Interborough Rapid Transit Company ceased to exist in 1940. The 1000-foot long tunnel runs from Broadway to St Nicholas Avenue and is like walking through a museum of graffiti art. It is quite the site to see.
