The Impossible Burger was good, but the fries were cold. The Miso Tofu Stir Fry was also very good, but it had way too much sauce...there was basically a puddle at the bottom of the bowl. The server was extremely nice, but he clearly had way too many tables, so we didn’t really get quick service/attention. Compared to previous experiences, I feel like the quality & experience at Candle Cafe West has declined. Hoping it improves because I’ve had several great experiences here before.
In New York, vegan and vegetarian spots seem to open on a monthly basis (and close almost as frequently). Candle Cafe is one of the originals, and in my opinion, one of the best. My most recent visit there did not disappoint.
The menu is creative and varied, with options ranging from traditional brunch items and salads to a vegan interpretation of brisket and even a raw lasagna. Whether you were drinking green juice in the cradle or have never eaten kale (and never want to!) in your life, there will be something for you here.
Our waiter was friendly and patient in explaining the various menu items while also pointing out potential concerns on food items (it was clear that he was used to customers angrily returning their RAW zucchini lasagna to the kitchen). He and his colleagues walso able to help us plan a family gathering we will be hosting here in the near future.
The atmosphere inside is cozy and can easily accommodate couples, friends, families, and even large gatherings. I look forward to many more meals here in the future.
AMAZING service, phenomenal food. Would recommend to anybody visiting NYC, vegan or not! Will definitely be returning next time we are in the city.
This was our first stop for food in New York City. I tried the Impossible Burger for the first time. The truffle fries it came with were delicious and I enjoyed the burger! I wish I had the opportunity to visit a second time. I'll have to go back again if I am ever back.
If you want to try vegan food, this is the place in NY. The food is cooked by a master chef.
It's kosher, organic and vegan. Each dish is original with multi- cultural influences. And delicious!
