Overall, it was a good experience. The portions were a good size and although, the staff was limited the waiter was courtesy and going as fast as possible. I order the fried pork chops, with mac and cheese, yams, collard greens and okra. The mac and cheese was great. And the yams were good. The pork chops and okra lacked seasoning and the chops were dry (fried too long). The collard greens tasted like canned greens, instead of fresh greens. As a southern girl eating soul food in New York, I can say that the food was solid.
If you want DELICIOUS, PLENTY, GREAT SERVICE and CLEAN...... go to Amy Ruth's! My hubby and I had a great Saturday "day-date" which began at Amy Ruth's. Although it was my first Amy Ruth's experience, it wasn't my hubby's first.
I was pleasantly surprised that this is not a fly-by business but has been established in this Harlem area for over 40 years!
Amy Ruth's we shall return......with others in tow!!!
Rev. Al Sharpton, dark n smothered, the best chicken & waffles in the world. Granted I'm a white Jewish kid from the burbs, but this is BY FAR my favorite chicken & waffles joint and I've tried em all over TX, CO, and AZ. High praise for the collard greens as well, even though it is served without any bits of smoky meat. Bring your appetite because these serving a big... 2 quarters of chicken and a full sized waffle. Another feature of this Harlem landmark are the portraits of famous Black leaders painted all over the walls. I love finding reasons to take anyone and everyone to Amy Ruth's for a taste of the south in NYC!
