Amazing vibe and food, also the cocktails are super yummy too. One of my fave new restaurants in NY. Restaurant week menus were great value for money, but could be a little slow if you go at weekends. Beautiful interior, great vibe for both groups and dates.
The design of the restaurant was really nice and the food was okay considering the price. I went with 5 others and ordered a bunch of small dishes. I’m usually not one to write reviews but this was the first time I met such a sassy and rude server. When he first brought my drink, he placed it on the table in front my 13 yr old sibling and walked away without even telling us what drink that was…just expecting us to know. Then when we asked for the check he put all the items on one ticket so we asked to split into two tickets based off of our order. I could tell he was annoyed by that request as he just walked away. When he came back with our checks he placed it down and said “so one person pays $150 and another pays $151” in a tone as if why did you make me go through all of that when it was just $1 difference and you easily could have just gave me two cards. First of all, we didn’t bring out our calculators to add up our orders so we didn’t know it was so close. Second of all, isn’t it your job to fulfill your customers request especially if it is reasonable?? My friend ended up tipping less, but I still tipped 18% knowing fully well that he didn’t deserve it. Never coming back again…
A very fun restaurant. It was more of a “bring a group of friends for a good time” rather than a “intimate date night” kind of vibe.
The cocktails were on point. We ordered the red dragon and the Osaka flame. The both were excellent, but the Osaka flame was my favorite!
The spicy tuna tacos and rolls we ordered were delicious! We ordered the Hot Mess and the soft shell crab one. The soft shell crab roll was chef’s kiss!
The tempura chili lobster was my favorite dish of the night. It used to come as a large plate for two for $150 but they halved the portion and price to make it easier to order. The milk and honey tea cake was very good, maybe a little too sweet and cinnamon-y for my tastes, but everyone else loved it. It’s like a soufflé with sweet milk in the middle and a fancy gold leaf for pizazz. Get it with ube ice cream on the side! It helped balance out the sweetness.
Now, for the stuff that was just okay:
The chicken Katsu Sandro was pretty good but I think I would’ve rather ordered something else. The green tea chicken had amazing presentation but average flavor—quite bland, nothing special. The fried rice was also average. We got it with wagu on top but regretted it. The wagyu was cut into tiny cubes then overcooked in too much soy sauce. I think it was like $15 extra too. I don’t recommend it.
If you’re wondering if you should go to Kumi, the answer is YES 🤩 Not only was the food spectacular but the customer service was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. There was a small mishap with their shift change and my friend and I weren’t seen for the first few minutes of being seated. Once the waiter realized what happened they apologized profusely, comped our drinks and the manager gave us 3 FREE APPETIZERS. I’m blown away by their hospitality. The food was truly outstanding, specifically the Hot Mess Roll, Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice and the Brussel Sprouts (but you literally couldn’t go wrong with whatever you order). I can’t wait to go back. ✨
Yummy Japanese restaurant with delicious food and phenomenal service. Our server was Andre and I nominate him to train all the servers in NYC. He made it such a cute date night for us. 100% request to sit in his section when you go and say hi from foodjunkies. Can’t wait to return!!!
