Food, drinks, and vibes, all are great but would be even better if NR doesn’t have such a strict timing for each table. I don’t object to keep ordering food/drinks while I am here but 1.5hr could be quite rushed for friends and couples who were trying to enjoy a nice evening out. 2hrs might be more reasonable.
This is a swanky and fun Japanese cocktail bar and restaurant. Perfect for a date night or casual drinks in the UES. Reservations recommended. They have a nice oyster happy hour until 7 PM most nights but you should definitely take advantage of. Cocktails or funky but a little kitschy (who needs a cocktail served in a bell pepper?!?), And still delicious. All the food I tried was wonderful. A stand out is the curry soup which is a light thin soup from the Sapporo region of Japan, that is served with a side of rice. You can opt for chicken, vegetables, or both chicken and vegetables. The flavor is complex delicious and comforting and you can choose your spice level from 0 to 5 if you’re a space love her you could do four or five I got the four and it was perfect. The chicken is fall off the bone delicious and all the vegetables are well cooked.
Highly reccomend this restaurant! The staff was absolutely fantastic, and the food and drinks were amazing! I came back from living aboard in Hokkaido and I have missed having soup curry. Really was my comfort food when I live there, and not really a common dish outside of Hokkaido. So knowing they had soup curry on the menu, I made this restaurant a must visit on my trip to NYC. This soup curry was PERFECT! If you have never tried this dish I highly recommend it!
I mainly go to NR for cocktails so I'll comment on that. They have great drinks made meticulously by their Japanese bartenders. It's has a chill vibe where it feels more like a lounge with food than a restaurant with a bar if you know what I mean
Was there for lunch and while all of their food is pretty good wish there was more of it. Felt more like a bar scene with the most amazing and original drinks menu. Tried a transparent tomato which was pretty good. The service was pretty nice, just wish the food wait would not be so long, especially that the menu is not that big.
