This spot is excellent! Reasonable pricing, large portions and the staff are regularly very welcoming.
I first went to a Pepper Lunch restaurant when I lived in Asia. Love the concept, love the taste! We ordered a steak and some cheesy Kimchi beef rice. You get a hot stoned pot where you can prepare the meat yourself to your taste. It was really delicious and the meat is truly juicy. You can tell that they use quality beef for their dishes. Absolutely dreamy. I wish to come back here sometime soon whenever I'm in the States/in Asia
I frequent Pepper Lunch whenever I'm in Saigon, Vietnam, so when I heard about the PL on Chelsea, my excitement was palpable.
The atmosphere is family/group-friendly, with open tables, booths, and spaces. The tables can be moved around to adapt to group sizes.
I went with my husband for dinner and our order was quickly taken when we entered. The staff are friendly, but I got the sense that there were not a lot for them to do if the shop isn't full. This creates a sort of lax lull in the restaurant.
The price was alright, considering it IS NYC and the beef is higher quality than most other casual dining options. I loved the food! I had a beef pepper steak with miso soup, which was delicious and familiar. My husband had also a beef pepper steak, but with fries. We both got a drink.
Overall, the space is clean, the staff are friendly, and the food is decent. Not much to complain about but also nothing significant to write home.
You first order at the counter before taking a seat. I find that around weekday lunchtime that this place is half full (but never crowded) with people like me, similarly singularly enjoying a nice meal.
This is close to my workplace and I have gone for lunch atleast 4 times now. I have never been disappointed in eating here no matter the cut or the combo. Rib-eye is always great and the addition of cheese on rice is yummy! Try it if you haven't yet.
On this lovely, auspicious day, I just want to say that NICHOLAS (ignore if spelled wrong) is my favorite server. He's always courteous, helpful, and attentive. And I hope he has a very happy birthday.
You order at the counter then sit and they bring it out.
The steak is served raw on the top and you flip meat when desired. The server offered to heat more if it was still not cooked enough with the hot plate.
Casual ambiance , and serving style is fun.
Angus Chuck was a bit chewier than I'd prefer. Comes with corn and a couple slices of carrot and string beans.
Overall good deal. Would try the pepper rice next time.
Garlic paste and sauces at the table to season yourself.
Toothpicks and mouth wash provided in restroom was a nice touch also.
