You call and pre-order (and pay upfront -we had the dinner menu).. they buy only the fish you need and is so fresh that for Manhattan is a real exception (unless you go in a 1000$ place). I’ll add pics because no comments can validate as much the place, just look at the color of the fish meet (the odd looking one is yolk and sea urchin, I loved it)

The intimate setting made for a more interesting dinner and the fish was top notch. Can’t recommend Tanoshi enough. -

(February 15, 2022, 6:59 pm)Incredibly low-key and intimate setting, no elaborate decor or anything. Frankly, it was the most delicious sushi I’ve ever had, with many styles and combinations I’ve never tasted before, but it was too pricy for me.

There used to be an old Japanese lady who always look very happy. Not sure if she is the owner. One night I went there alone and was quite sad. She kept giving me food for free. Unfortunately I haven't seen her ever since. Hope everything is well for her
