I always go here when I feel like eating comfort food. I attempt to make kimchi porridge at home and it's just not the same. My go to dish is always the octopus kimchi porridge. The side dish of the soy sauce meat compliments the dish really well. I often dine alone here and have always felt relaxed.
One of my favorite places to go for a nice simple bowl of jook/porridge. It has a very calm atmosphere and gives you a sense of well being for mind body and soul.
Last Wednesday I was in flushing area. It was cold and rainy day.
I stopped by to bon juk and was greeted by nice lady as soon as I walked in.
I been here few times last few years ago but now the traveling to flushing it's hard so I stopped going.
This place is a big plus if you had wisdom or any tooth out since you shouldn't chew anything. It's also good for health.
I really liked the interior.
So there were no customer at the time I went since it was around 9:30am but there were alot of take out.
Oyster mushroom porridge: The seasoning and everything was great! Sometime oyster has fishy smells but this place didn't which was a big plus for me. It came with 3 sides dishes. One of them were just too salty which I barely touched.
Abalone porridge: It was bland to me that needed some soy sauce but my friend did liked it except one of the side dishes being salty.
I also ordered one of their drinks which it got me interested because it was never there past few years ago.
There were 3 options but I ordered the pumpkin juice. At first it tasted like milk mostly but if you shake a little it taste much better. I liked the pumpkin juice! So next time I'm there I will try their mungbean drink.
Overall on the time I stopped by I had excellent experience with them.
They have one of the best congee's I've had in a very long time. It was extremely tasty. A very large portion with flavoring included and was definitely worth the price. The rice was not over cooked, watery, or to dry... it was literally perfectly cooked. It will be my go to for rice pooridge from now on I liked it that much!!!!
Perfect food when you arent feeling well especially stomachs or ulcer
