I always forget the waitress name, but she did a great job. Had not been back to Jumbo's since it opened. Wow. Big surprise. Thank you for giving me a place to stop in after Sunday church. I recommend a window seat so you can watch the fun stuff happening at the red light..it's out of sight♡
Great atmosphere, great portions and friendly staff. Food was hot and delicious.
So glad to find this place after a beautiful bike ride in the surrounding area. What a great find! Very cute inside, super nice server, and the BLT and burger we had for lunch really hit the spot. Plus, they have an in house baker and we bought 3 donuts and a giant cookie for the road. We will definitely be back!
Jumbo's Diner has been a staple of small town life in Gouverneur, NY for as long as I can remember. When it closed it left a big hole in our hearts and our community. Several months ago when I saw work begin to restore the diner I was beyond thrilled. I waited patiently.... ok not really patiently.... I waited. The newly designed and refurbished diner opened a few months ago and in the time since I've heard mixed reviews about food, pricing and staff. Let me set the record straight.
The staff was all smiles from the minute we walked through the door. The new lighting gave the perfect ambiance and I was shocked at the cleanliness and perfect mix of retro and modern decor. It made my heart happy that the original Jumbo's sign from the front of the diner now graces one of the of the inner walls.
Our waitress let us pick the booth we were most comfortable at which was a bonus for me. She took our drink order and gave us a moment with the menus. She came back a few minutes later and we put our order in. We had our food in less than 15 minutes.
The food was perfect! Everything tasted great, was hot and fresh, and was plenty to fill me up. Our waitress checked on us twice to make sure we were doing OK.
When we finished my friend went to pay the bill and was a bit confused. We had both heard that the prices were too high for the value of the food and other nonsensical rumors. We both had two eggs, toast, and homefries, and I added bacon to my order, both with a soda. Our bill was just over $11. So to anyone hearing the unfounded rumors about high prices, they are just that, rumors. You can't even eat at McDonald's for $5.50 a person anymore!
I highly recommend making a stop at Jumbo's if you're just passing through or making it your regular hangout if you live in Gouverneur. 5 stars and two very enthusiastic thumbs up!
The place has been completely redone inside and looks wonderful. The burger was really good sized and cooked so that was nice and juicy. The onion rings were also done wonderful and the breading had a good flavor.
