The Whale Outpost

I can't believe I didn't know this was here for about 6 months after it opened, when I was going to grab coffee at Pennycup next door on a regular basis. I LOVE this beer and wine shop that sits right in the middle of the neighborhood in Haw Creek. The staff are friendly, and it's a wonderful place to pop in for a drink on a weekend afternoon on the patio, or just to grab something to go!

Updated - found some reasonable offerings, I guess I just have “expensive” taste?

Very relaxed and welcoming environment, great selection and helpful staff.

The value, however, seems to be a bit of a miss. 4 12oz beers came to $44 before tip. I love a good import, but $12 and $11 a can is outrageous. The markup here is incredible, and I’m hoping to find some better pours that don’t exclude those with a modest income: I’ll be sure to update my review if I can find some reasonable options on my next visit.

The best selection of beer, wine, and more in East Asheville. More of a store than the WAVL location with shelves of to-go products, but there are plenty of comfortable spaces to have a drink: at the bar, outside, or in the cozy little side nook with tables and benches. There’s plenty odds and ends on the walls giving it an old-time general store feel and even a working pinball machine! A much-needed addition to Haw Creek.

Nice addition to the Haw Creek community. The staff is extremely nice and helpful. There's a great selection of bottled beers, ciders, sake, etc. from around the world. They also have eight beers on draft. The location is really well done with a nice bar and plenty of seating. I look forward to visiting this location again soon.

Cool place! This place seems to be a great fit for locals (like me) and guests. Much, much bigger than it looks on the outside. Phenomenal selection of craft beers (no Bud, Miller, Coors). 8 taps, bunch of seating (indoor and outdoor). Grab wings next door and sit here!
