Sanitary Fish Market and Restaurant

It was such a beautiful evening we chose to sit outside and it was really beautiful. In the menu I found a picture of food that looked delicious. Found out it was Mahi and a stuffed potato. My plate came out as beautiful as the picture and was delicious. Can't wait to be in the area again to come back.

I have been coming to the Sanitary Market with my family for over 50 years. They always deliver delicious, fresh seafood. The staff is friendly and helpful and never in a hurry to dismiss you. I've enjoyed coming here and I will continue to come here for as long as it's open when I visit North Carolina.

The food was great had the most tender fried shrimp I ever had. My wife and I went there for our 26th anniversary meal. Great food and Great service. I even got a chance to talk to the owner that is 88 years young & we talked about how much things have changed. When Sanitary fish Market & Restaurant open in 1938 you could get a sea food platter for 88 cents & breakfast for 25 cents.

I've been coming here for over 40 years as a non-local. It's popular with locals and tourists alike. It's next to the dock, and extends out over the water, with indoor and outdoor seating. When they say fresh, they mean 'caught that day'. There is a bar, but it's a family atmosphere. They advertise plainly that if you're drunk, they don't want your business. A relatively recent addition is a small ice cream parlor. Plenty of parking across the street. Excellent food with heavy emphasis on local seafood
