Rose’s is one of my favorite spots in Durham. It’s a cozy spot, and can definitely get crowded during the dinner rush — but the food is well worth the wait. I love the ever-changing menu, especially the belt noodles. The noodles are perfectly chewy with the right balance of spicy/savory/sweet flavors. And the pastries! Do yourself a favor and save room for dessert. I’d recommend the salted caramel macaron or an ice cream sandwich made with snickerdoodles.
We had the noodles and the steamed pork buns. Solid food and service. There is often a line to be seated, but it is not at all unreasonable.
My daughter moved to Durham and during the move I passed this charming place many times. In fact, I thought the name was Noodles, Dumplings and Sweets. Tonight, while out on my own, I finally stopped in and I’m so glad I did! Rose’s was busy in the kitchen at with incoming customers. I was a bit intimidated to sit alone at the bar but I was mesmerized by all the activity. And I got to talk to someone who was about to take a fencing class next door!
I ordered the Autumn Vegetable Noodles and a Sparkling Rose. I was ready to deftly use chopsticks but the noodles and veggies were so hefty that I succumbed to a knife and fork. The presentation was beautiful and the flavors were a mixture of spices that were nearly addictive. Deep, hearty flavors that melded into the noodles and surrounded the taste buds with absolute delight made my evening simply delightful. The staff was kind (but rushed) and have a routine that keeps every customer attended to.
Yum. Just yum.
Rose's Noodles, Dumplings, and Sweets is one of my favorite restaurants in the Triangle. The chef puts out inventive takes on the latest street food from Asia, which are really quite excellent. His wife runs the sweet side of the business at a very high level.
We each got one of the steamed buns. They were delicious! The dough to meat ratio was perfection -- the meat was incredibly tender and moist. Somehow the bun stayed light and fluffy with the amazing meat and sauce inside. The buns are large, but they go down quick. I would not recommend sharing these because you will want one to yourself.
