Becky's & Mary's Restaurant

We returned to Becky's and Mary's Restaurant after having such a wonderful meal there the last time we were in High Point. This time, we were there for lunch. The menu had fewer items on it than breakfast does but the food was still absolutely delicious. No matter what you order, from grits, to chicken, to pork, you will not be disappointed. A few recommendations: those yams...oh, those yams. You must try them. The fried chicken is piping hot, crispy, and juicy. Whatever that gravy is they put on their rice is to die for. This is one of two restaurants we will return to over and over and over when we're in High Point.

The food was really good. I felt the service could have been better. I got a lukewarm reception at best. Right behind me were several white people. After making a new black customer feel like it didn’t matter that I came, the guy at the counter was acting like these white people were his favorite customers. I probably won’t go back. All the black folks that I know keep businesses like them afloat, we are the ones they should always thank for coming.

Great down home cooking at it's finest! The food was great, we had a variety of breakfast items (grits, pancakes, liver pudding, bacon, eggs, toast). The seasoned staff were all smiles the entire time. I was told they've been a staple in the community for over 40 years. We'll definitely return soon.

This place is in a category by itself. Walk through the doors here and you walk back in time when this neighborhood was in it’s prime and the area was bustling. B&M is maybe what’s left of those times. It caters to regulars, and if you aren’t then you might feel left out. But not to worry, the folks here are friendly. Would I send my vegan friends here, probably not. Is it even that “healthy”, well you be the judge. But the food is good. It’s basic, simple, comfort food. Don’t expect anything more. And the yams are to die for. They’ve had some up and downs lately, but as of November 2018 the doors are open. And unless you know the details, don’t critique. I recommend you check this place out. But take cash because you can’t eat on credit. This is a rare medium well done.
