So….the first time we visited was on Saturday….tried the fried fish….my first words when I saw my plate were “oh my” because the plate was HUGE and the portions was adequate to say the least and I already knew I’d have enough for another meal! First bite made me close my eyes and say “yes!” It was delicious! The hot sauce complimented the fish just right! The greens were tender and sweet just the way I like them.
Needless to say I came back again on Tuesday to try the wings and decided to try the Mac and cheese this time. I’m not a huge cheese fan and everybody says I’m weird for that but that’s just me. But this Mac and cheese was just right for me. The sweet potato cornbread….yummy!! And that Russian tea, not like my auntie used to make but it’s goooood!!!!!
I ordered the cackalacky sauce for the wings. The sauce was too sweet and thick for my liking. That sweet potato cornbread was AMAZING!!! I wish I didn't stay that far I would go get that cornbread all the time. The collards and green beans were good as well but the cornbread was my favorite!
I’ve never had soul food before in my life but if the way Miss Johnnie Mae’s makes it is what soul food is supposed to taste like, then BOY have I been missing out all of these years!!
The restaurant is family-run. You can tell that they take great pride and dedication in their food and service as to pay homage to the namesake Miss Johnnie Mae’s. Everyone there is very warm, down-to-earth and friendly.
So far I’ve tried the Rasta pasta with jerk chicken, fried wings, Mac n cheese, collard greens and corn bread. They’re all very flavorful and perfectly seasoned! An added plus is that portions are very generous so
You’ll definitely have left overs if you’re not planning to share.
They also have some dessert and usually run weekend specials like oxtails and lobster tails but I haven’t had a chance to try them yet because I can never get there early enough before they sell out!
that oxtail rasta pasta a little to saucey but was freaking amazing. We also had some baked turkey wing(not wings like advertised) dirty rice, 12 cheese mac 🤔🤔 yummy and collards(to much sugar in them) but over all it was yummy. I would eat here again.
