This is my second visit to Ted's Shack on Dellwood Road Waynesville. First of all, this was not a change in name from Low Tide which was closed. This a new restaurant owned by a Navy Veteran named Ted who also happens to own the Buttered Biscuit (a Waynesville hit for breakfast is an understatement). But this is a review of Ted's Shack not the Buttered Biscuit so let me not digress. My name is Joel and today (6-27-24) for lunch was my second time eating at Ted's Shack. I first ate there with two friends back on 5-29-24 and I could not figure out how to do a Google Rating when it still isn't showing up under Google Search. When I saw the rating here, after scratching my head, I decided to make my stand. Both of my visits have been a 10+ in all categories (service, food quality and price). Honestly, I don't get it. This is without question the best restaurant I have eaten at this year...maybe the past few years! YES, IT IS REALLY THAT GREAT! Both times our server was Christina S. The first time by luck and today because I requested her. Her service was so exceptional on my first visit I wanted to use her again today. She remembered me...perhaps because of my above average tip for super meal back on 5-29-24 lol, but for whatever the reason she did remember me. My son got the Beer Battered Fish & Chips with a salad. I got the Build Your Own (BYO) burger...all beef and huge, and a salad as well. The salads were plentiful, fresh crisp clean lettuce, some veggies, some cheese, some egg, simply fresh and yummy! This is the second time I got the BYO burger, and it was just as perfect as the first time I had it. My son got Beer Battered Fish & Chips. Four huge pieces of perfectly battered & fried white flaky fish over a plate full of French fries and a few hush puppies. My son loves fish & chips and routinely orders them and pronounced this as the best in the area! Seriously, the food was beyond awesome, the service is the best I have had (now twice) ANYWHERE in the Maggie Valley/Waynesville area with the same matching service coming from of course the Buttered Biscuit. I'm not trying to be a cheerleader for both places, but they are both owned by Ted who I met today at lunch and had a great chat which is when I learned about him being a Navy Veteran as well. Back to my meal, I became aware of this dessert on my first visit when my friend ordered it, and I ate just a bit. It is a thick rich brownie with chocolate pieces and pecans on top, a layer of vanilla ice cream topped with a layer of whipped cream and a cherry. On the sides of the plate was a drizzle of chocolate and butterscotch drizzle. I'm not sure of the actual name but if you are a chocolate lover, this dessert is to die for! With a cup of coffee, yum! One piece is plenty for sharing but in the interest of full disclosure both my son & I each devoured our own piece! So I rate today’s experience a solid 5-star out of 5-star in all categories and I hope this detailed write up encourages you to enjoy the new best place to eat in Waynesville! They are open Tues-Sat. 11-9.
