Hands down, the best BLT you will ever have. I make it a point to intro a new person to it very time I can. Yes, there will be a wait...yes, parking can sometimes be an issue, but call your order in and pick up, if at all possible. Fresh ingredients, served on a variety of local bread. Try it once, and (If you're a bacon lover) you'll crave it forevermore.
We stop here whenever we travel to visit in Chapel Hill. If you've never been, just ask inside where to queue for your order! Desserts are yummy too! We like to sit outside in the back.
If you want a BLT, THIS IS THE PLACE. Forget Sutton's, Merritt's is hands-down better. I recommend the double... they don't just double the B, but the L and T, too. One double was enough for me and my SO. Merritt's couldn't be less fancy - you order at one window, pay at another. There's a crowd at lunch, but they have a lot of outdoor seating.
Place is old and small. Feels even smaller because it's crowded. People come here for the good food, not the ambiance. This was my first time. I ordered a burger. It was the size of 2 burgers made from fresh lettuce and tomatoes and all the fixings. I even added bacon and it cost $11. If the weather is good, there are several additional tables outside. Pick your drinks from the large assortment inside refrigerators lining the walls.
Love the place. Know what you’ll get with it though. Relatively cheap food, not very healthy, but the spot has history and a great vibe. Enjoyed it a ton. I got a big fat BLT of course, and it was well worth doing at least once.
