TRU Deli And Wine Bar

Really fantastic and attentive bartending from Matt and solidly amazing sandwich from the kitchen. Solid 5 stars.

TRU has a number of attributes that make it a regular part of my restaurant/cafe/bar rotation. They have great sandwiches and salads for lunch, a chill vibe for a glass of wine while getting some work done, and a fantastic patio for a beer while out on a walk with my dog (TRU is pet friendly).

The crowd here is eclectic and the staff is always great. In fact, my favorite bartender from a nearby establishment that I used to frequent in a former life (rhymes with “Minda’s”) joined the bar staff not too long ago and my wife and I couldn’t be happier with his addition.

The only cautions I will give to those who’ve not been here before are as follows:
(1) The ordering system takes a little getting used to. There are no preset items to order by a name or number like at a fast-food place. Every item is ordered a la carte, so don’t forget to add toppings to your sandwich or salad.
(2) At very busy times, it can be a little understaffed. Be patient and remember that the kitchen for this place also produces food for folks on campus, so the wait can be kinda long. Consequently, I would not recommend this place for a “quick bite” if time is critical.

TRU Deli is my favorite spot in Chapel Hill. They have yummy sandwiches, wraps, salads, as well as a full bar. As well as being delicious and healthy, all of their food and drinks are reasonably priced, which is rare in the area. The facilities are always clean, staff friendly, with various seating inside, outside, or on their beautiful roof. This is a great spot for lunch, to study, or casual drinks. They have a more bar like vibe after about 10pm, when they stop serving food. My personal favorite part though is they are dog-friendly both in and outside!
