Mason's is located in the North Hills Shopping area in Raleigh. I drove over there from Cary because I needed to return something to Lou & Grey. When I finished, I realized I needed to grab something to take to work for dinner that evening. I was SUPER excited to see this place, because I hadn't had a Lobster Roll since I'd vacationed at Martha's Vineyard with friends I went to visit from Boston.
First, let me say the lobster was indeed fresh. The sandwich overall however, was dry and flavorless. When I sat down to eat it, I was confused. I was trying to think..."I did order the classic, right? With butter Mayo, and lemon?" I didn't taste any of that. I don't want to pay $17 for a small lobster roll and then have to doctor it up myself to give it taste. Maybe I should have asked for extra condiments...
Very nice restaurant! I was able to enjoy some good Reggae Music (Bob Marley) while I sat and ate my food. I got the Connecticut Roll and it was so delicious!! I also ordered a Lobster Bisque to go...only to find out later that it didn’t have any lobster meat in it, but I will definitely visit again.
Something to consider. While the Lobster roll I ordered was tasty, it doesn’t match the $16.50 price vs what serving portion you’re given. I agree with some of the other reviewers who have said similar remarks. I only opted to try the food due to a $7.00 discount given thru Grubhub.
Definitely not a repeat establishment. At best its a one time experience based on the price their asking. I understand its lobster we’re talking about but a larger roll would be easier to accept, especially if you’re asking customers to come back.
Stopped by for a late lunch. Had the Connecticut Roll with a side of potato salad. Daughter had the Mac n cheese (no lobster). Both were great! So good that I got another Connecticut Roll for carry out when we left. We are in town visiting but if we were locals we would definitely be regulars.
The Connecticut lobster roll was delicious and they had a very good deal where you could get a side and a drink for $1. However, the potato salad is not good if you are used to the southern style of potato salad with mustard in it.this was more like the whitish Amish style, but still not as good as the Amish kind you get from the grocery store. Perhaps a lack of salt?
