They don't have czarnina every day though it is on the menu. if you call they tell you they're out of it but actually it isn't even made every day unless the owner is in to make it. Hey, owner, I want czarnina available every day. That's false advertising. People may come from a long distance for it. Why should we have to call first? It's on the menu!

I am lucky enough to have been raised on Eastern European foods so I know the good stuff. Recently, I've introduced to of my former bosses to the joys of being ethnic. Both of them are of Irish origin but now I think they're honorary ethnics.

Babushka's keeps alive the comfort food tradition of stuffed cabbage, paprikash, pierogies and dumplings. The decor looks like you're eating in your grandmother's kitchen (not the good dining room, that's just for company) and you'll feel right at home.

I love "The Gatherer" combining potato pancakes, fork tender pork roast, sauerkraut and dumplings with a bit of gravy and dollop of sour cream. It's enough for leftovers and just as good reheated. I'm told the green beans are a great side dish, I'm partial to the cucumber salad with paper thin cukes marinating in a sweet/sour dressing.

Also recommended pierogies, chicken paprikash and the kielbasa. Friendly and accommodating staff makes you feel like family. There's even a frequent diner program now as if you need another reason to make a return visit.

I had the enormous Hunter's Platter for $15 and it didn't disappoint - I came with a hearty appetite and could only finish about two-thirds of it. Babushka's kitchen offers good Polish food at reasonable prices. Note, the decor isn't anything fancy...reminiscent of a bar mleczny in Poland (for those who know what a bar mleczny is!) Still, as a Polish food fan, I'll be coming back.
