13P Currently on gate guard detail..PSA there's a Visitors Center now, and if you don't have a government issued ID, you will have to go there, give them your state id and undergo a background check. If all is well then you'll receive a 3 day pass, or 30 pass depending on why you need to come onto post. (I don't know what they look for on the background check)

I remained at Ft.Sill from 1976-1980 for active duty. My Barrick s was 10 yards from my door step to Gerinimio 's guard house, built around 1864 and still there today. That was very special to me, I will never forget that.

i did my basic here, August-October 1996. wouldn't recommend it during these months. we didn't have bunk beds, 72 men in one bay. lots of fun. By far, the hardest boot camp post, from what i have been told about the other boot camps. Of course that was back then when the drills could beat the crap out of you, if they felt like it...ahh the good old days.

This small museum focuses on historic aspects of this large Army post that is loaded with history! Across the quadrangle from the museum is the Sherman house, named for the visiting Civil War general who scuffled with 3 Indian Chiefs on the front porch. Nearby is the guardhouse where Geronimo stayed after a few late nights in nearby Lawton. Geronimo is buried on the fort grounds, as is the famous Comanche chief Quanah Parker [next to his mother Cynthia Ann, who was kidnapped by Comanches at age 9 -- fascinating story]. There is also a large museum of artillery pieces that you'll likely easily see as you enter the post. Military buffs could easily spend a full day here -- do your research and find a good map to bring -- the fort is big, and the roads wind around!
