Charcoal Oven

Finally had a chance to eat at the reopened location. Since the original location closed I had hoped they would make a come back. I arrived right when they opened and it quickly filled up. I had an Old Fashion Burger with jalapeño’s and grilled onions. I enjoyed the flavor and taste of the burger. For a side I went with the iconic onion rings and they did not disappoint. The staff was very friendly and the service was great.

I was very glad to see charcoal oven back in business, even if it seemed like an...interesting move to open up next to Patty Wagon. And I want to fully recognize that this review is being written when they’ve been open barely a week and are still going through those grand opening growing pains. I’m sure the waits for food will die down eventually, the hours will get better as they get a handle on service supply and demand, their website will actually go online, etc etc. All in time.

The real problem—only one employee was wearing a mask. This review is also being written when there is an active public mask mandate in OKC, has been for a year now. Ignorance is no excuse. The guy taking orders, the cooks, anyone I saw come out of the back, nope. Just the girl handing out orders as they were ready. And it’s not like they had them under their nose or on their chin as a chinstrap, I mean not a single mask in sight near an employee except for on the one worker and EVERY customer in the building.

Review of the food: the flavor is *kind of* close to what the old Charcoal used to be. The onion rings are fantastic. Get those. The burgers are...okay, reminiscent copies of the ones from expressway, but not as good. I’m sure it’ll get better, too. I’m hoping so. For now, you’re not quite getting the old flavors you remember, because they’re absolutely SLAMMED at all hours and they’re rushing to get orders out as quick as they can. Wait a while until the rush has calmed down.

Soft opening today. I had the theta burger and large onion rings. Took ne back to the old days.Thanks guys and gals. Good job.

Same great taste, thank you for bringing back an okc icon! 4/12 soft opening date 12 to 5, grab em while their hot, staff is friendly even though they're stressing their first day, but it will get better, you guys rock!
