McKay Cottage Restaurant

This place certainly has quite tasty food and is all around outstanding. It deserves its rating for those who have no dietary restrictions. I only know this, however, from dining there in the past before choosing to eat vegan.

(I knew my choices would be limited when visiting again recently, so I'm not going to give it a low rating just because I eat differently from the majority of people. Again, it deserves its high rating. I just want to share in case anyone else who eats vegan wants a little info before they dine here.)

They can accommodate those who are vegan, but literally nothing on the menu is vegan friendly by default. So they made something for me, and it was tasty, but with a few modifications to their menu they could probably have a great vegan offering. For instance, even their granola apparently can't be made vegan by swapping the milk because the granola itself has condensed milk in it. And vegan pancakes aren't too hard to make. While they have gluten free and dairy free pancakes, these all have eggs. Hopefully they can change this in the future!

There is a good reason this place is always busy: the food is delicious! I arrived on a Friday morning and it was busy, and they were able to seat me quickly. The servers offered helpful suggestions. I enjoyed the hash with homemade hot sauce on the side. The house jam was so good I bought a whole jar. The historic architecture adds another level of interest. So good!

A family of 8 in town for the holidays and found this the perfect spot. Heaters and a covered deck outside for waiting with coffee and adult beverages available to toast you up while you wait. Ordered a variation of items on the breakfast menu including a daily hash special, all very delicious. Service was attentive and friendly throughout the entire experience. Very cozy indoor setting with heated outdoor tent available for extra seating as well as if you have a pup with you.

I was absolutely amazed and impressed not only is the food incredible the service tops it. I have worked in service myself and am particular on service especially and I have to say I’m blow away and so happy with my service provided by Meadow she is most definitely a big part of me coming back regularly I will be requesting her. Today I came to celebrate my mother’s birthday and she made the whole experience so special ! I highly recommend the great breakfast sandwich. If your looking for a desert option there signature carrot cake is great I’m not one for carrot cake but I have to say they impress. Definitely my favorite spot in bend.

We were visiting from out of town and found the most amazing gluten-free options for our children! We had no idea GF pancakes could be so fluffy and huge! The entire meal was delicious, including the cocktails for the adults in our group! Outside dining (we were in the tent) was actually nice despite the cool weather. It was well worth the wait and we will definitely be back the next time we're in Bend.
