The Washburne was a great spot for a morning coffee and treat. They offer full plate meals (breakfast and lunch), and if the smiles on the patrons' faces were any indication, the food is tasty. My breakfast treat was tasty. There was a pleasant background taste of banana to complement the chocolate chips. It was too cookie to be a sweet bread, yet too substantial to be just a cookie.
They offer table seating, bar seating, and a living room- like area. I experienced it as comfy despite the bustling energy of their mid-morning crowd. I will be back!
So yes i gave 3 stars but hear me out. This place is great. Coffee awesome, food really good. The killer for me though is the wait and the flies. For how busy this place is you think they would have more than one person making drinks. I appreciate that the food is made fresh but half an hour for a breakfast sandwich makes you wonder if they are taking too much on for their kitchen size. And again out of all the times I've been there it seems like the amount of flies is overwhelming for a cafe. Amazing potential for this location, they should consider upsizing their equipment for what they are trying to offer. And one or two more of the blue light bug catchers near the doors. Please give this place a try but only if you're not in a hurry.
The Washburne breakfast sandwich was pretty darned great. The tender, but still crisped at the edges, pork belly was luscious. The egg was beautifully done, and dripping yolk. Made a it a little difficult to eat with just hands; but, that's just part of having egg in your sandwich.
The flavors were fantastic, and I would recommend that sandwich to anyone.
I also tried the chicken and waffle. The chicken was tender and juicy. The breading on the chicken was amazingly crisp. The only real criticism is that it could use a little more seasoning.
Normally restaurants tend to over-season and over-salt breading. This is the only breading that I can say I have encountered that could actually use more salt. A light spray of soy sauce really zinged it up a notch.
Beyond the slightly bland breading the rest was fantastic and the counter service was amazing.
Fantastic lunch. Very tasty sandwiches and wonderful kind and helpful staff. We’ll be back!
