The food is delicious and I highly recommend! The ribs and wings are amazing and it’s one of the better BBQ places in Portland. The only reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is the lack of consistency with available items. There is usually an item or two unavailable each time I’ve gone.
Back Alley BBQ is a sweet gem in the Saint John’s Food Pod Area. I ordered almost one of everything just to try it all.
My favorite was the pulled pork combo with the ribs. It was so tender and the sauce was just the right balance of tang and spices.
Their seasonal summer corn side was AMAZING!!!
10/10 recommend and this is coming from a person who isn’t a huge BBQ fan in the first place.
I had the smoked BBQ chicken wings and charred scallion potato salad and it was all yummy. The chicken was crispy and smoky and flavorful. What I appreciate about their food is that it isn't drowning in a one note dressing. Some folk might want their food to taste straight up like Tabasco or Mayo or BBQ sauce but I like what they're doing here at Back Alley: they let the herbs and spices and cooking method convey a greater depth of flavors. They had a corn salad special that day that my friends raved about but alas this dairy-free gal couldn't try it for the feta.
