The food was decent but over-seasoned. The price was fair and the service was decent. It's grimy and there's sand everywhere, but that's to be expected when they are on the beach. They aren't as friendly as some of the other restaurants in the area, but who knows, maybe we got them on a bad day. The views are stunning, as shown in my photos.
Food was acceptable overall. Definitely not bad food at all. Also most assuredly not exceptional or special. Flavor, seasoning and portions were all over the place. The value wasn't there. Wait staff was excellent. Front of house staff were passive aggressive, bordering on disrespectful.
If front of house were better and price was adjusted to better meet quality and portion size (10-15%), could easily be a strong four star.
We love stopping here as we stay nearby often when we visit Rockaway. I loved my Steamed Clams and everyone else was happy with their meals. The Garden Salad, as a starter, could be a little bigger with more toppings for the price. Other than that, nice prices on drinks and good pours for the adults - don't change that please 😊 Also appreciate the service, enjoy the decor inside with painting on the walls and other themed elements, along with knowing it's a family owned business.
We stumbled across this place on a day that was a little cloudy. Even though the weather wasn't great people were eating outside on the patio as well as inside. The food was good, and the portions the right size. Be having amazing waitress with the most beautiful vivid blue eyes. She had a great personality and was patient with my crazy ordering habits. We will definitely be going back when we're in town. I mentioned the place to my daughter, who lives down there, and she said she loved that place too
What a wonderful experience. We've stayed in Rockaway before and now I'm sorry I missed this last time. If you blink, you might miss it. It's at the end of the street at the beach. They have a great selection of drinks and the food menu rivals everything you'll find on the coast. It's not a huge menu, but that's a plus. Our server, Maia, was awesome. She made us feel at home. I'd highly recommend the Sand Dollar to anyone staying, or even passing through, Rockaway Beach.
