Cracker Barrel Old Country Store

Cracker barrel is large chain (franchise?) serving down-home food. Whether you like it or not depends on your expectations. Want fried okra? Sweet tea? This might be the place for you. The quality is consistent and the wait staff is good.

Been to many a Cracker Barrel in the Southeast and have always had fresh, tasteful food.

Tonight I ordered the Grandma's Sampler and my wife had the Friday fish special.

Pancakes were very flavorful, but thin. The bacon was very thin (although advertised as thick); sausage party was a small puck, dry and not very flavorful; ham was good but was 1/3 fat; and the fried apples were just okay.

The fish special was pretty good.

I liked the atmosphere. The service was great. The sides selection of over a dozen options allows for a wide variety. For those who are sensitive to pork, avoid this place. My wife and daughter are, if you like the aroma of pork, it is the place to go. The decorations on the walls were fascinating, kinda over the top for me.

My husband and I went yesterday after church, and we really had a great experience. Our waitress, Gladys, was so attentive and checked in with us often with refills and asking us if we needed anything. I got the chicken fried chicken with macaroni and cheese, the kale salad and the loaded hash brown casserole. all were delicious and just the right amount so that I wouldn't be overly stuffed. My husband enjoyed his meal as well people all the staff was very friendly with us. We were even able to purchase a couple white elephant gifts for an upcoming Christmas party at 60% off! We will definitely be back!

Food is good ole' comfort food. HOWEVER, I've been to this location many times and there is ALWAYS something wrong with my order! Something missing and having to wait for it or hot items cold. Recently, my sister and I both ordered chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and mixed salad with blue cheese dressing. She ordered green beans and I, steamed broccoli. Salad came with dinner, NOT before and BOTH had RANCH dressing. BOTH chicken fried steak were hot, perfect, right? Not so, BOTH of our mashed potatoes and gravy were cold as was my broccoli. BUT my sister's green beans were steaming hot... AND the kicker is, the restaurant was half filled. I can't fault the waitress for the incorrect salad dressing as she repeated it twice. The fault lies with the kitchen....not knowing how or when to plate food and not knowing the difference between blue cheese and ranch dressing...
