Although the prices have gone up, tacos are still great. The cook is pretty friendly and rarely messes up orders. Clerks are hit or miss. Sometimes they give off the vibes that we are bothering them. A manager has address them one time as she witnessed this. Nice clean place overall.
Tacos and quesadillas are excellent! Was visiting from CO and this was a nice little slice of authentic food/market options that I’m used to out there. Will be back for sure to get some aloe water and some Al pastor!!!!!
This place will be problematic to me, you see, I went in for ONE singular pepper and left with an ENTIRE bag of merchandise. Great selection. Great staff!
And I've had the street tacos, I'm not a fan of corn tortillas and felt they sucked up all the flavors. Once I ate the taco filling w/o the corn tortilla...it was incredible! So good! Hopefully, soon they'll offer flour tortillas.
And! Contrary to another review, staff do speak and understand English, they're just really quiet when they talk to native English speakers, which, no worries. I know SOME Spanish but I'm too afraid to speak it in front of native Spanish speakers in case I don't pronounce something right.
Oh, and if you're a first timer, having anxiety about how to order food, just tell the lady at check out how many tacos you want, with or without cheese and that's it. Then you pay and she gives you a note to take outside where you hand it off and tell the guy at the grill what kind of meat you want on each taco, then hit up that condiments bar because it is amazing and so fresh!
First off: Despite knocking off one review star, I’ll enthusiastically give this place more business. Those tacos were top-notch, and a great value. I tend to look at prepared tacos as overpriced when dining out, but these were an exception, with generous portions. (Currently $3 each for chicken, pork, ground steak, chorizo, ribeye, or pastor [#IYKYK]. Cheese 50¢ extra. Worth it. Intriguing for a future visit: Tongue and tripe tacos for $4.50 each. Hmmm…) Quesadillas at $6 each? Not recommended. Basically the same amount of protein for twice the price. Worth mentioning: there’s a welcome “extras bar” to add to your takeout order, and you need to know - the red salsa is Hot AF.
Next: it’s a terrific addition to the Ambridge retail mix to have a Mexican goods grocery catering to the hispanic community, and this place seems to do it well. There is a wide array of Mexican brand names for snacks, health and beauty aids, spices, cleaning products, and more. Impressive. A small deli counter gives you semi-prepared goods to choose from. My bride was thrilled to find crema cheese and chorizo, and I’m thrilled that there are some great omelets in my future as a result.
A small produce section, including some curated peppers, will be worth exploring. So, this storefront is and will be a nice asset to the community.
Now then: where they lost the star, and what we all can do about it, and jeez louise, this is gonna be tricky:
There is a language barrier here, and it can be overcome.
In my two recent visits, I interacted with 4 employees, none of whom spoke English. Unfortunately, I don’t speak Spanish. After today’s visit, I realized that my iPhone has a translation app built right in, which, as it turns out, is as user-friendly as you’d expect. So, I look forward to trying that out. Also, the employees already are using prepared notes telling you to tell the cook what flavor tacos you want. With this system, my “2 Pastor tacos and one chorizo quesadilla” order wound up becoming all-chorizo. Not a major setback, still freaking delicious. Next time I show up, I’ll have some post-it notes to show the cook. So, they were assuming I could read English - not a given - and, I’m gonna assume they can too, also not a given… and there will be the iPhone translation app to fall back on.
I wish this place all the luck in the world, because if they succeed, my life will be for the better for it.
Get here and enjoy.
Amazing staff and selection!! They have tons of food and produce and milk and drinks and fresh meats at a deli in the back! They serve tacos out front that are so delicious and surprisingly huge! Very decently priced and they just opened today! It’s about $3 per taco and to add cheese it’s .50c very affordable. And they have a sauce and toppings bar that is so extensive with roasted peppers, salsas, guacamole sauce, onions, pico and cilantro! I got 3 tacos and a larger chocolate coconut beverage from the cooler.
