Came from out of town. I heard about Mazi through a friend. Service was excellent. Food was awesome! We had the Charcuterie board to start and I really enjoyed the mussels. The broth was delicious! The outside seating was nice. West Reading is a really nice place to people watch as well. We got there as soon as they opened, but it was clear as the night went on that reservations would be a good idea.

Great atmosphere and concept. But as a Greek person, I was disappointed with the lamb shank dinner (more soupy than anything) and not very good service. Then to get (in my opinion) an obscenely high bill at the end of dinner did not kindle joy. For example, when ordering a most basic drink like vodka & cranberry juice, I'm not accustomed to getting billed $7.50 for vodka, and $4.00 for cranberry juice. May give it another try one day.

Just what west reading needed! A nice change from the pub style restaurants. The food is amazing, atmosphere is relaxing!

Mazi is beautiful. Very European, open air concept. There were 6 of us in our party. We started with fried zucchini and tzatziki and mini gyros for appetizers. Zucchini was not flavorful, as if it had not been seasoned at all after it came out from being fried. Tzatziki was tasty. Mini gyros were a cute concept, however, the meat was was tough and hard to chew. The olive bread served with olive oil for dipping is very tasty. For entrees, 3 of us got souvlaki. It was typical souvlaki, but made with filet instead of lamb. They all enjoyed it. 1 of us had salmon and said it was tasty. 2 of us had the lamb shanks. We both have had them many times, so we expected them to be fall off the bone tender. They were very tough and sinewy, swimimg in greasy sauce. The orzo was hard to find in the sauce. It was floating in the sauce. We both mentioned it to a server and she agreed it was too much sauce so two bowls of extra orzo were brought to us to pour into our dishes to try to absorb the sauce.

The thing that was most noticeable and disappointing was the service. Our server was a young lady, inexperienced and frazzled. She initially got our drink orders wrong because she didn't understand different types of liquor or preparations. Our water was not refilled. We were not offered a second cocktail, wine or coffee with dessert. She seemed overwhelmed and the bartender had to come to our table to assist her. He apologized several times. He was very helpful, but truthfully, he needed to be behind the bar because he was very busy.

We all decided that we will give Mazi another try in a few more weeks, understanding that COVID presents challenges for restaurants and for finding wait staff. The restaurant is lovely and inviting and a nice concept. There are several positive reviews I've read on Facebook, so perhaps we just hit an off night.
