Pica's Restaurant

Picas is an iconic landmark on West Chester Pike. They are primarily know for their ???? square pizzas. Mostly sauce. It is a family atmosphere.

This place is amazing! Was there today while on a work trip. I had the grilled chicken with peppers and broccoli rabe. I would drive 500 miles to get one of them! The ingredients were fresh and the roll was perfect, soft on the inside with a bit of crunch on the outside. I was so excited to bite into my sandwich I forgot to snap a pic so you will have to go there in person and try one.

The pizza is amazing (possibly the best in the Philadelphia area), but the service is questionable. Our server didn't do a few basic things that I would expect most servers to do. Her didn't greet us or introduce himself; he simply asked if we wanted anything to drink. He barely spoke above a whisper, which made it very difficult to understand him. He didn't seem to know the specific beers on tap. After bringing us our drinks, he disappeared for a very long time before we were able to order. When the food runner brought our pizzas, she basically placed them on top of each other and we had to move the extremely hot pans ourselves in order to have access to both pizzas. He came back once to refill drinks and when he brought the refills back he was unsure whose was whose. After we were done eating, he disappeared for a very long time and it took forever to get our check. Once he gave us the check, he disappeared once again. After he ran the credit card, he dropped the check and simply said, "The yellow copy is mine." Didn't say bye, thank you, have a nice evening, etc. Very strange experience.

Food was really great. Atmosphere was good, too. Tables were slightly small but not too uncomfortable. The only issue we had was with getting refills or the check at the end in a timely manner, but it was a busy night.

Pica's was recommended to us by a friend that grew up in the area. We finally took the time to try them out and were not disappointed! I noticed the menu mentioned. bread and peppers. With many meals, bread and roasted bell peppers are brought to your table as an appetizer. I was skeptical, but it was really good! We tried an assortment of dishes. The sauce on the manicotti was some of the best I've ever had! The portions were very large, so I took home lunch for the next day. Overall, we were very happy with our experience and look forward to going again!
