We've eaten here a few years back and it was really good. Unfortunately, our most recent experience was pretty bad. My medium steak came out well done, like really really well done. Not a huge deal, I sent it back and ordered a burger. That took quite a while and it was pretty burnt too. When we were done eating and waiting for our check, the bugs were getting really bad and they hadn't lit the citronella candles so everyone was getting eaten alive. Our waitress did a good job, and they did comp my steak and my burger for which I was very appreciative. The meal deserved 2 stars, but they didn't charge me so I gave them 3 stars. We won't be back anytime soon.

Went on a Friday night in season about closing time and had wonderful service and great food. We got grilled and broiled fish, both were prepared excellently.Loved the sweet potato tots and the Mudslide that we had. I'd come here again anytime !!!

The smothered chicken is great! So was the salad and baked potato. Don’t order the smothered chicken if you are trying to eat healthy, because it’s got ranch, bacon, and a genuine ton of cheese. They do have other healthier choices. Service was friendly and efficient. I eat here semi regularly, have never had a bad experience. Ribs, burgers, ox roast sandwiches, and Lake Erie Perch are all very good. Also try the Black Diamond Steak.

Ordered perch dinner, which was okay tasting and an okay portion. Nothing to blow anybody out of the water.

As a local, I felt out of place. It felt more touristy than anything. Food and drinks were moderately priced. While I was full leaving there, the atmosphere left me wanting something more.

Much like the reviews of this restaurant, my experience was mixed. Joe Roots grill is a comfortable, relaxed, surf and turf restaurant. The service is on the slower side, but the servers are kind and considerate. In our party of 8 people about half were happy and half weren't impressed. Joe Roots knows fish and steak, it seems, but not much else. The walleye bites were incredible and steak was cooked and seasoned nicely. The lobster bisque was decent, could do without the sour cream on top and consistency was a little off. But the low of the night was the lobster. I had the lobster alfredo and lobster mac and cheese. Both were very overdone and tasteless. The lobster tail my wife got was cooked well, but seasoned poorly. All a grilled lobster tail really needs is butter. Dessert was disappointing. All in all. I say, know what's good and you'll have a decent experience, but if not, you'll end up paying a lot for mediocre food.
