Good food nice staff. Great atmosphere good lighting chill place.
One of the delights of travel is to come across interesting places to eat. On Friday, I dined at such a place, Georgian Bakery and Cafe, located in the Little Russia section in NE Philadelphia.
Because it was just after 9 a.m., I thought I'd go in for a pastry, ooh and aah for a bit, and be on my way. As I looked at the menu, I see this flat bread looking thing with an egg on top. Thinking it'd be a nice little pick-me-up, I ordered the "small" Ajarian Khachapuri. And since I was getting a fancy cheese bread, as I termed it in my head, a bowl of bean soup sounded good.
The red bean soup came in a small, covered clay pot that steamed when you opened the lid. Had a hearty flavor with a hint of cilantro and, according to the waitress, walnuts.
Then the fancy cheese bread. If this was small, the large must be huge. The picture I took, the camera had to be held above my head to get the entire dish in the frame.
I researched the dish and apparently it's supposed to be an appetizer shared by several people. I see why as I could only eat a third of it.
The dining room was beautifully decorated with, I am assuming, traditional Georgian dress. The tables set quite formally.
What a wonderful treat. I hope to be back next time I'm in Philly.
Super super delicious food! Its It's been years since I ate this well!
Fantastic authentic Georgian cuisine. Great owner that cares about customer just like personal guest. Mcvadi (shashlik) is highly recommended!
