I ordered my usual, oxtails and cabbage. Because they had baked macaroni and cheese I ordered that instead of peas and rice. The food was a little salty (I should attribute that to my reduction in salt in food I cook at home). The meat was melt in your mouth delicious with a great creamy gravy. I like cheesy mac and cheese with a bit of caramelization. This was cheesy. Cabbage is cabbage. I have yet to find cabbage that blows the roof off. I did like it. Very tasty. I like cabbage. I would go again and try the stewed chicken and peas and rice next time I am in Philly.
I order Curry Goat with Greens, and Mac & Cheese, Roti and Jerk Chicken Salad. The Curry Goat was amazing. They did not have Jerk Chicken Salad so they gave me a side of the Jerk Chicken. Honestly, the best Jerk Chicken I have ever had! I only rated them with 4 stars because they did not have Roti. I can not wait to eat their again!
I dined in here Sunday February 10th. I had the Oxtails, rice & peas and mac & cheese. The oxtails were very flavorful and tender. Good portions. Howard layered my rice with the Oxtail gravy juuust the way I like it!! Lol the mac & cheese was the right consistency and tasty!!! After trying this dish at various Jamaican restaurants. I concluded that Jamsicans could not make Mac n Cheese until I had Irie's. Yummy!!
My only issue was the dining area was cold. Not sure if they had a restroom as the doors weren't labeled. Parking is metered street parking only so be prepared to drive around looking for a spot. Enjoy!
They were out of plantain so I was asked for a substitution but I received neither the plantain nor the substitution. For a large plate there were hardly any oxtails on it. They put sugar in everything even the mac n cheese (which ruined it for me). The jerk chicken was dry they shud have added some sauce to help with the over cook. The rice n beans were good but a little sweet. There are too many Caribbean restaurants around for them to be so average. I don't like sweet macaroni. I shud have made my own food. Too tired to cook
YUMMY! Once a week I go here for a oxtail platter & carrot cake...
