After 20+ years of satisfying my cravings for Vietnamese food at Vietnam Palace in Chinatown, this year, after visiting the Flower Show, I dined with friends across the street from the Palace, at Vietnam Restaurant. The Palace had disappointed me the last few visits (inconsistent food and service, and they changed some recipes!!). Last night's meal at Vietnam was incredibly good— service was excellent, ambiance too, and the food was fantastic; everything tasted exactly like I hoped it would-- spring rolls, fish stew in the clay pot, meatballs, char-broiled pork-- and the portions were ample-- we brought leftovers home. Can't wait for the next craving to go back....
As a prior military member and traveler, I enjoy many foods from around the world. My friend chose to bring me here based on that, and his prior experiences visiting here himself. We ordered several things to share as to experience more of the menu, to include a clay pot. Expedient service, excellent food, small yet personal atmosphere. Would visit again upon returning to Philadelphia.
Excellent food and great atmosphere!
Food is just like my family's if not even better. Good portions and fast service. I just wish the waiters didn't stand so close to us huddled together. Made me feel like I was being watched. Upstairs has a bit more privacy. Menu prices moderate for area and the fact that Vietnamese food is not hard or expensive to make. Good for date night. Dark wood tables and chairs with soft lighting. Can be loud. Waiting area can be spruced up for sure.
This is a great spot for lunch. They have a lunch special for around $15. I had the shrimp rolls for the appetizer - these are shrimps and vermicelli that come in wraps (not deep fried) I also got the chicken vermicelli and ended with a green tea ice cream. Overall I think the meal was delicious and filling and the service was quick and excellent.
