The Compound

This business can be a little confusing. We are regulars here and I would like to clarify some things as well as provide feedback. The creative compound is the overall business, and they have a nice space inside and offer small events like open mic night, live music (some really great musicians), etc. Inside the business, there’s currently anatomy cafe (coffee, small bakery items), Maes juice bar, and Follow the Smoke (BBQ food). This can be confusing because they used to have Smash Squared but that closed down, even though there’s still some advertising that displays Smash. The food and drink offering we personally love, but the menus seem to change pretty often (like on a weekly basis lol) and some things are just inconsistent. Also you have to order at the front at the anatomy cafe for everything, then go to the back to pick up a Maes juice order or Follow the smoke. Sometimes they don’t have certain food items available, or say they just changed the menu again, or someone else makes a juice for me and they admit they’ve never made it before and don’t know what they are doing. I just feel like they would be more successful if these items above were addressed. They also do not answer the phone, we’ve tried calling before to confirm if they were open or if they had live music going on, no answer.

Great atmosphere. It gets you inspired to be creative.

Great place! Enjoy coming for the music and the drinks and buffet have been wonderful as well.

This is a unique little gem that I'm excited to learn more about! You shouldn't hesitate checking them out.

This is a great meeting place for catching up with friends or meeting clients.

As the barista, that served me today, said "this is Honesdale's best kept secret."

But why?!? Everyone needs to know they are there. I'm not sure how I've missed this!

They have drinks and food; Anatomy Craft Coffee Bar coffee, tea and espresso drinks, Maae's Juice Bar smoothies and bowls, Follow the Smoke BBQ, Brother's Bagels, and who knows what I missed. They have limited menus to make it simple and not too overwhelming, yet plenty of different offerings for everyone. There are multiple businesses in one here and that's a unique concept.

They have seating options from a couch or individual chair to table and chairs to gather at. They have music nights. They have a suggestion board and comments board (love this BTW). They have a few games and a shelf of books. On seperate floors I hear they have a tutoring space, office spaces, and conference room (this part I don't quite get yet, but I'm intrigued).

Over all just a very welcoming feel and great place. It was clean and the vibes were good.

The best part- I was very pleased with my iced caramel macchiato and everything bagel with plain smear. The pricing is a little steeper than I expected, especially for the bagel. (I think bagels were $2.50 or with cream cheese it's $4.50.) However, I think that's pretty normal for this kind of Cafe style place?!

I have to elaborate on the coffee though. While they only offer one size, it was pretty darn good. Smooth, not over powering, just the right amount of oat milk and caramel. Was definitely not bitter. I do not give out solid 5 star reviews often, but this is earned. I don't have a complaint.

I will be back again and look forward to trying more things, especially food from Follow the Smoke.

The true test will be if they are consistent. That is the key.

But if you're reading this before deciding on a new place to try in Honesdale, go, try them out. You won't regret it.
