Food was good. Pricing was a little high. Service was exceptional. Definitely somewhere I'm going to go again. Wasn't blown away, but there is always another chance.
So, first, the service was amazing. We had Ellie as a server, and she was so sweet and attentive. For an appetizer, we had the pretzels and beer cheese, and I SWEAR the beer cheese tastes exactly like my mom’s Welsh rarebit sauce. I also had what I think was the Fig and Barrel Cocktail. It reminds me of something my mom irresponsibly let me taste when I was, like, two or three years old, but instantly transported me to my old house (that I’m pretty sure is a crackhouse now) in Primrose Acres... memories... sigh... Also, the tomato and avocado grilled cheese tastes like heaven dipped in— you guessed it— my mother’s buttery spritz cookies. I’m pretty sure my mom is haunting this place. Either way, I’ll take it. My son had the wood fired mac and cheese, which he devoured after I stole a delicious bite. The Brussels sprouts, pizza, and beer menu were also excellent. This morning, my fitness app yelled at me for being underweight. I don’t think I have that problem anymore after coming to Fig and Barrel. We will definitely be back.
An excellent new addition to the York food scene. The cozy fireplace and wood oven pizza add to the cool cocktails and bar scene. The owners are terrific people and the staff is top notch.
Really nice atmosphere, beautifully set up. Adequate service and interesting drink offerings, but I'd agree with other reviewers that some of the food seems overpriced for the value.
Today we tried the "fig & pig" wood-fired pizza and the avocado grilled cheese. Both had potential but were underwhelming; the pizza, for skimpy and oddly balanced toppings, and both items for being burnt black. Seriously, the flavors were ruined by overcooking. Even the famous tots were crispy-hard today. I was with a friend who gets anxious/embarrassed when any fuss is made in a restaurant so I couldn't send anything back or say a word. I just paid my check with gritted teeth.
It should be noted that F&B boasts a highly enjoyable whiskey selection, which my friend enjoyed sampling. For cocktails, I suffered through a humdrum mimosa then switched to a deliciously tart, lemony craft cocktail called "Cat's Pajamas", which I highly recommend.
Wish I could be as enthusiastic about the food menu. We'll give it another try, some other time, and hope for better fare.
