El Tapatio Mexican Restaurant

t was worth the wait! After nearly a year of anticipation, the Cranston El Tapatio finally soft opened this week. Like many others, we've been watching the progress as they renovated the inside and cleaned up the outside. Unfortunately, they don't have an outdoor space but their take-out process seems good. There's a door to enter and a separate door to exit.
We ordered takeout of a vegetarian burrito and a chicken chimichanga. My wife said that the burrito was excellent with sauteed mushrooms and seasoned black beans. There were a lot of onions but I think they're necessary for flavor and easy enough to pull out if there's too many for your liking. My chimichanga wasn't as huge as I typically see, so at first I was disappointed but once I cut into it, I absolutely could not have been happier. It was basically stuffed with only a seasoned/stewed chicken breast. That's it. The outer "shell" had been so perfectly and lightly fried that it seemed (almost) healthy. The chicken was incredibly good. The rice, beans, guac, sour cream, and Mexican Cole slaw that came in the side of my deluxe meal were all great. We were also provided with complementary chips and salsa. The chips were still warm and fresh. We had to really control ourselves to keep from eating all of them right away. The salsa wasn't our favorite because it was very mild. I think typical New Englanders will like it. Next time we order I'm going to see if they have a spicy version.

Great food! Nice portions! Vegetarian options! Nice atmosphere and family friendly! The best Mexican food I have ever tried! Been going to their restaurants for 8 years. I have tried other restaurants and the quality doesn’t compare!
