Ah, the Venezuelan Spot, allow me to begin with a bit of backstory, I’m a biiig foodie and aspiring food blogger. So I’ll try anything and everything, i’m always looking for new culinary horizons to munch on. And when I had seen his place next to the Asian Market, I was truly surprised!
I had never caught sight of them prior and I had to go in for a menu a few days ago!
Today, my family and I had come in after a long day and we really wanted to try something new so we came in and the atmosphere was so peaceful and inviting, it felt as if we were coming into our own home for dinner.
The owner, Jose, was so kind and funny, we had a lovely conversation which signaled even more pleasantness to come.
We ordered a nice assortment of things as when we go to new places we like to try as much as possible can! Expectations were set low but man, did they ever hit it out of the park!
The empanadas, the dough was crunchy and so fluffy, the fillings like the bean and cheese, shredded beef and chicken filled the dough to the edges, leaving nowhere to hide inside. They were piping hot, straight out the fryer and to our table!
The mix cachapa was a dish we all nibbled on as it was a nice size for the table, the sweet corn it’s made with was so delectable and authentic, it made me have flashbacks of my childhood and the filling of chicken, cheese and plantain only added more flavor combinations that’s complimented the delicious dough of the cachapa!
The drinks were refreshing and naturally sweet. We got the tamarind juice, the passion fruit and the brown sugar cane with lemon I ordered, which out of the three I favored the most was the tamarind! So I highly recommend the tamarind juice and the brown sugar cane with lemon!
As for the food, I ordered the pabellon which puts you in the mind of bandeja paisa without egg and chicarron (which I don’t mind since we don’t eat pork and for those staying away from pork, i’d recommend this place heavily and you don’t have to worry at all about not having enough options for your palette.) It comes with black beans, shredded beef, and fried plantain and we were told that all plates were interchangeable with whatever you wanted so if you wanted chicken or pork instead of the beef, it’s an easy switch!
We also ordered the shredded beef empanada and bean and cheese empanadas and we got the Venezuelan sampler!
To pick apart the Venezuelan sampler, it has yucca, small arepas, Black beans with cheese, some type of chicken salad (we forgot to ask what it was! TOT), the shredded beef and shredded chicken!
The yuca was fried but not greasy at all! It was prepared authentically and seasoned perfectly. The arepas made me regret not getting a full sized one however we used them as chariots for the other toppings.
Using the arepas we dipped into the black beans and cheese which are truly noteworthy, they were cooked just right and seasoned to perfection and made me think of my grandmother’s cooking!
But the best part was the avocado-cilantro dip he gives with the plates!
That stuff is just addictive! We were almost fighting over it!
    And finally, the tres leches...
I almost don’t want to give it a divine rating as that would mean it would get ordered more, leaving none for me!!!
But I have to give it its dues as the tres leches was absolutely delicious, just perfect! It was soaked to the gills with milk and for me, a tres leches isn’t a tres leches if it doesn’t have that beautiful cinnamon-y love puddle of cold milk around it on the plate. It was cold and refreshing and fluffy, there aren’t enough words.
If you come here for absolutely nothing else, you’ve got to try the tres leches or risk having food regrets!
This place was genuinely a much welcomed change to the somewhat seasoned yet swimming in cheese cuisine Greenwood has to offer.
It was truly a delightful experience and leaves one feeling satisfied and fulfilled inside!
And I don’t think I have to say I’ll be coming back again as much as I possibly can and I recommend everyone to come and partake in The Venezuelan Spot’s deliciously warm aura!
    M.

This is now one of my favorite Greenwood local restaurants! I ate here with my in-laws last week. I didn't know what to expect - I thought it would be kind of like Mexican food (which I love), but it's very different. It's not spicy. Delicious and healthy. I could tell everything is authentic and the owners really care and are personable. I will defiantly be back!

Awesome, authentic venezuelan restaurant. If you dont know what it is, or have never try it, it's a must!!! Arepas, cachapas, plantains, tostones, and especially their home made tres leches!!! Jose and Manuela (owners) are very friendly and very helpful if you dont know what something is. They are very willing to give you a try of anything is they can. Definitely recommend!!!
