First time in tonight with my wife, and we were both very impressed on every level. If I could think of one negative, it's that the salsa bowl that came with the chips (provided before we could even pick up the menu) was a bit small and could have been larger.
Usually, I have very low expectations on décor at any restaurant these days, but honestly, this place is over the top. The biggest standout though is the lighting, and I regret not taking a picture. Large light fixtures with arms that stretch out ending in what looks to be blown glass tulip shape bulb holders. My description cannot do it justice, but they are beautiful. Although the feeling is casual, and anyone would feel comfortable here (I had jeans and hoody on), overall, Margaritas feels more like something I might find in uptown rather than a few hundred yards from Food Lion and McDonalds (no offence to Food Lion or McDonalds).
Our sever Omar was very attentive and checked on us constantly, but was never a pest. He admitted early on that he had only been doing a few days, but he was clearly on his game tonight.
We did each get margaritas, which were good, but I am partial to frozen kind and these were on the rocks and just ok. It's not why we went there, but given the name, I was expecting to be a bit more impressed. Not negative, just not something I am basing my review on.
I ordered the Pineapple Loca (pictured), because it sounded so interesting on the menu. Steak, chicken and shrimp cooked with pineapple, bell peppers and onions topped with cheese dip served in a half a pineapple and it came with choice of 3 sides (pictured), which I got refried beans, Mexican rice, and steamed corn.
My wife got the Steak Vallarta, which is Grilled steak and shrimp cooked with onions, mushrooms and chipotle sauce with Mexican rice and guacamole salad (pictured). Note the sauce on it in the picture and my comment about sauces below. We got some tortillas also.
Before I talk about these dishes, let me mention what I am used to be disappointed with at places to eat. Generally, I find anywhere that says something is in a sauce, means "would I like "x" with my sauce" and any flavors that might come from the meat or other ingredients is completely overwhelmed by whatever sauce it is drowned in. Second, most places over season or put too much salt on things IMO. Third, I never get what I consider "hot" (temperature) food, like right off the stove or out of oven or broiler. It's generally warm enough, but you know it sat for 2-5+ minutes before the server brought it out, and usually because one dish was done while the others at the table were still cooking.
None of the above applied to Margaritas.
The Pineapple Loca (pictured) was amazing. The cheese sauce was different than anything I have had before and was just right as a compliment to the steak, shrimp and onions. It was just awesome. Amazing flavors.
The Steak Vallarta (pictured). . .ok. . .side bar comment. . .my wife is a bird. . .we make jokes about it. . .she pecks at her food. . .she is the last done eating ever because she eats slow and has a relatively small appetite. If it is a good restaurant, she will eat half and take the other half home for lunch the next day. If not so great restaurant, she will eat half and leave the other half. She ate everything. There was nothing left. Most sincere compliment she can give. The steak was cut so thin, and cooked in a way that it was tender and flavorful and the dish prepared in a way that it was a dish with steak and not a steak topped with a bunch of stuff. I tried it and it was really good.
My wife and I biggest fear is this won't last because even the best places we have been to have let us down on later visits because being consistently good is very hard, except Waldhorn. In fact, I am hoping that what Waldhorn is for local German food, this will be our place for great Mexican food. I will definitely do a follow-up update to this review following our next visit.
Wonderful! The place is gorgeous, friendly staff, food & drink are very good!! Very large selection of items on food and drinks along with some very unique shots & food items. Five stars!!!
BEST Mexican restaurant we have been to in a very long time, if ever! Not only is the food amazing (fundido dip, chicken fajitas, etc) but the decor is so updated and modern, and everything is clean! It’s incredible! Highly recommend!!
Plus, they have 40oz Margarita Towers….pregnant me is making that my first drink after I have this baby 👏🏻
Had the shrimp tacos, a's the birria tacos. Ssssoooo good! And the salsa for the birria tacos was awesome. Everything was well prepared and tasted to perfection 👌🏽
Service was great as well, our waiter kept checking on us the entire time. Definetly a place to come back with friends, for beers and drinks too
They just opened and we’re very busy for a Tuesday night. The impression when you walk in is the decor is awesome and modern. They are customer friendly. The food was good and can use improvement on the vegetables. I would have liked them steamed instead of over cooked. They do not offer military discount. We will come back and review again after the newness wears off. I say give it a try ya just might like it!
