Flavor of the pizza was great. Loved the smokiness of the Porchetta. My biggest concern was with the consistency of the dough. I purchased a slice, and a whole fresh pie. The slice had a section that was razor thin. There was also a spot in the full pizza that was razor thin, as well. Basically one slice out of eight was ruined. If not for that, I probably would’ve given at least a four if not five. Pretty expensive pie to be shorted a slice. If they can iron out the inconsistency of the dough, this place will be a great pizza spot for Nashville. I look forward to trying it again.
Good pizza, only drawback is the drink structure.
Pinky Ring is where the old Sir Pizza was beside the Subway in Madison. For those familiar with the OLD place, the food was good but seating was limited and the bathrooms needed serious attention.
Pinky Ring updated things. The first change you'll notice is there is a porch out front with picnic tables. Probably nice in summer months, but it's been a polar vortex or something recently. Inside, the seven booths have been replaced by one row of bar seating for maybe 9 total. This opened more space for preparing the pizza which can be viewed by turning around to watch or by seeing the reflection in the window. The bathrooms were also updated, a definite plus.
On to the important review, the food! We got the garlic knots ($8) and a pepperoni pizza ($28) with canned sodas ($2.50 each). As another customer described it, the knots were like a loaf, fairly large in size, and fairly heavy (not full of a lot of air in the dough). It was good, but both of us decided to only have one piece to avoid getting filled up by bread prior to the pizza . From what I could tell, they had lots of types of pizzas but not a lot of meat toppings (I only saw pepperoni and sausage listed, but I could have missed something). I have never seen pepperoni large like that on a pizza. It was good, but you will need a lot of napkins to blot up the grease prior to eating (I noticed the couple sitting next to me did the same thing). (That sounds like a big negative, but don't take it that way, the pepperoni was good.) The crust was pretty solid, not too flimsy, and tasted good.
They have canned and bottled drinks. It is a fairly large selection. My only problem is that I drink a lot when eating pizza. At a normal place, I normally get two or three refills. So, getting another canned drink was another $2.50. (I get charging $2.50 for the first, but maybe a discount or something on subsequent ones, especially regular sodas, or having one "exchange" free (give empty can for new one). This cost a star to the rating.)
I think dine in size will hurt this place which was very busy with take out orders. The benefit of the small size was it allowed us to have a good conversation with some others while waiting, but (as always) you have to be willing to put that phone down and say "Hi. How is your day going?"
The lady at the cash register was really nice as was the guy handing the pizza across the counter. The pizza makers were fun to watch.
A strong recommendation.
Madison finally has a fantastic pizza place! The staff is super nice and the pizza is amazing. Great variety of seltzers and pizza. The Porchetta and Esmerelda are so delicious. We look forward to going back to try the garlic knots.
Visited for lunch today & loved it! Ordered a pepperoni slice & garlic knots. Pizza was crispy, chewy, cheesy & they use old world pepperoni which is worlds beyond the basic stuff most shops use. The garlic knots were insanely good, arguably the best I’ve ever had. Overall a very tasty & still affordable meal. I know this spot just opened, but it won’t be a secret for long. 10/10 recommend!
I opened the door and was told they don’t open until October 26th. Chatted with the chef about what made their pizza different and he was kind enough to offer a slice to try. NY style pizza with a unique and amazing crust and a great flavor. This is going to be a great addition to Madison. Be sure to stop in and support them. And they have a great outdoor seating area!
