Perfect breakfast/lunch break spot. Hasn't been crowded at all the few times I've been around noon. The staff is friendly and the food is reasonably priced. The quality of the food is great, tastes like homemade breakfast. I've had the hash brown bowl and it was great. Today, I had the breakfast combo with eggs (perfectly sunnyside up, not burnt, no grease, and no undercooked parts), bacon (perfectly crispy and good size), hash browns (perfect), and toast (perfectly toasted and very buttery but not greasy). The meal with the addition of a drink ended up being under $10 which is fair for a meal in Nashville and the quality of the food.
I had the fried chicken on my first visit - and the world famous chili on my second. I was expecting it to be different, and was surprised at the texture - seemed like there wasn't much meat, mostly beans. But, hey - if they've been making it for a hundred years, and EVERYONE else on here likes it, it's probably just me.
Next time I think I'll try it as part of a dish, like with tamales...this order was the large bowl of plain chili.
I've heard that the catfish is REALLY good, too!
The folks that work there are super nice - definitely will be back.
I frequent this place on my lunch break. It is a fantastic place for locals or any human on a budget! The kindness at Varello's feels great and the food is always hot and delicious. I appreciate the affordable prices @ the heart of the city for all the locals who work nearby!
Tip well! They deserve it!
This is a hidden Jen in Nashville. We had the breakfast combo and everything was delicious and tasted homemade, from the eggs to the biscuits (I had toast but I stole a biscuit from my sis). This place is amazing!
The food here is amazing! We are from Georgia and I brought me kids here for breakfast and it was good southern cooking! The service was friendly and a reasonable amount of time to wait for the food. You can order to eat in or to go, we ended up eating in and the tables were clean and the atmosphere was good.
