Tonight we experienced our first meal at Lumiére Sewanee and our pallets were blown away! David and the staff were incredibly kind, helpful, and attentive. The ambiance of the space was warm and inviting with live music playing in the background. The music wasn’t so loud we couldn’t hold a conversation but was loud enough to be our entertainment. Upon entering, everything was placed neatly and orderly. It was obvious they pay attention to the details. David (the owner) made it a point to communicate with every guest that came in and was eager to help serve/host/bartend/whatever needed to be done. All of the staff seemed to get along very well and everyone looked out for the other.

My husband and I started out with the Salade Sewanee that includes: Roasted beets, pears, maple-pepper pecans, goat cheese, maple-Tabasco vinaigrette. The flavor profile of this salad is unmatched. I haven’t had a salad quite as tasty!!

Then onto the PLATUEAX DE FROMAGES which includes House pepper jelly, assorted pickles, olive blend, candied nuts, salumari, Smoked Gouda cheese, and Extra aged Sharp White Cheddar Cheese. Everything on this platter was scrumptious! We finished everything on the plate!

Next we had a garlic roasted potato and white cheddar cheese crepe.

My husband and I both ended up with Beef Daube. So so so good. And eating that orange peel with the dish really elevates it to a whole new level. Flavor just explodes in your mouth 🤤

We then ended the night with a ricotta cheesecake crepe with fresh strawberries and raspberries 🫠😋 (if I hadn’t eaten so much food, I would’ve had TWO of these!) AND finally maple cinnamon bread pudding. I’m not typically a bread pudding kind of person, but this dessert was heavenly!

Basically we are so full but WOW. So incredible. We will hopefully be coming back soon and often!

    Exceptional
We dined at Lumiere Friday, March 10th. Cheers to Boo and all the other servers. Service was fantastic.

We started with the fabulous smoked oysters.
For our 2nd course, we shared the amazing poached salmon crepe with the freshest Chimichuri sauce ever.
For our entree' , we shared the delicious roasted brined chicken for two on a bed of fresh baby greens with pecans and cherries. Devine.
I gave 4 stars simply because I was looking forward to the octopus and duck which were on the online menu but not available. The only negative is the pecans were slightly burnt.

We enjoyed the roast chicken: crispy skin, and tender, not-too-salty flesh but only served with chopped lettuce and croutons. Our Sewanee Salad used the same chopped lettuce along with canned pears plus toasted pecans and a nice dressing on the side. Beyond taking our order and delivering our food there was no service. Used dishes were not removed from the very small table. Neither were we asked whether we needed drinks refilled. We searched out the only waiter/bartender in order to pay the bill.

What a charming delight! Thank goodness Sewanee now has a charming French restaurant. They are now doing a soft opening to work out the kinks. Very smart indeed. My salad and crepe were well executed. The background French music was perfect. I urge you to support this new venue. We all need something besides pizza and hamburgers. The wait staff was very good and eager to please.

I had the chance to try Lumiere 2 weeks ago, and I was incredibly impressed. It is a unique and beautiful little spot...so exciting for the area. Most importantly the food was delicious! And I love the concept: South of France meets Southern US. It was beautifully executed.

I had the Sewanee Salad to start, and it was perfect. For an appetizer we had a chicken pesto crepe. I am gluten intolerant, so I haven't had a crepe in about ten years. To my delight, they were able to make a buckwheat crepe, and it was delicious. What a treat. Anyway, I ordered the ratatouille for my main course. It was a vegetarian dish, served over grits. This was my absolute favorite. It had smoky eggplant, a perfect amount of acid from the tomatoes, and was served over grits, which provided a creamy balance to the dish. I cannot wait to order this again. We finished our meal with a lemon curd crepe, which was also fantastic.

In addition to excellent food, they have a top-notch wine list, and the chef is very knowledgeable regarding the list and appropriate pairings. And I can't leave out that I started out with a really tasty whiskey cocktail.

Bottomline: 5 stars for sure. Totally unique for the area. Cannot wait to go back.
