Shoney's - Powell

Even though it is just off the interstate I found it difficult to locate this restaurant. A hint: as soon as you hit the main road headed west LOOK UP. It is perched above the road and does not have direct access. But it is easy to get to. Probably due to its location the Powell store is the busiest shoney's I've been to in a while. However this did not detract from the friendly atmosphere and downhome service one expects at a Shoney's. The buffet received full attention. Menu items were delivered promptly. Homage to veterans was the decorative theme. I never saw an ice tea glass or water glass that was neglected. Regulars and new comers were greeted warmly and seated promptly.

Friendly service. Good food. Bathrooms could have been cleaner. And the give you lemon juice for your water or tea instead of a lemon...but I didn't mind that. Better than wondering how many people have touched the lemon before hand. Lol

Great food , great service , our server (Melinda) was on her game she was always checking on us. Was very quick . And to see her bus her own table and clean and set up. I seen she even took the time to clean the table flags. We ate from the food bar the only thing the deviled eggs had no taste and seemed old. Other the that Melinda was AWESOME

I love coming to this location. Jeff, the manager, is so friendly, attentive, and very courteous. He has made my meals several times and does a fantastic job. He always makes sure the salad bar is full and fresh at all times. If you are in the Knoxville area, come to this location. You will not be disappointed in the food or service!

First of all I have to say that while the food is average-- the wait staff makes up for it! Every time I have been, I have had friendly and very attentive waitresses. My drinks are always filled and my plates are cleared immediately. Again, the food is OK. I happen to love a buffet and this hits the spot when you are in the mood for a variety.
However, this review is being based off of poor management. I heard the manager talk to his staff in a degrading manner, in front of customers. This is not OK. I left feeling very disappointed after that. I decided to write the review after my next visit, about 2 weeks later. When I walked into the dining area and saw him napping or passed out on a table. Please train them better Shoney's.
