Fabulous lunch at Hazel's today! Delicious food, very nice staff, and adorable outside greenhouses to eat picnic style in since closed to indoor dining. Go support a small business! You won't regret it!
I love the idea of a Jewish deli in Cooper Young and my experience wasn’t all bad, but their execution needs some work. The pastrami sandwich had plenty of meat and good flavor, but the fat was bordering on rubbery. I’m not one of those people who’s afraid of a little fat, either. Getting the meat right is pretty much the whole show at a Jewish deli, and this needed to be rendered a little more so that it would be melt-in-your-mouth tender, like it’s supposed to be. The fries were good, but the chocolate babka was small and dry. The prices are ok if everything is perfect, but too high for mediocre meat. Their competition in East Memphis isn’t as cool and funky, but they’ve got the fundamentals down better.
Very tasty, I prefer the bagels over the sandwiches though. My favorite is the knish. It is a little pricey but I don’t mind paying a little extra to help local businesses especially during the pandemic. Also love the cream soda.
Best pastrami Ruben outside of NYC. Just had one delivered by a kind friend. the pastrami was moist and tasty the kraut was good with a nice sauce. Highly recommended!
I have eaten at Hazels 3 times now and all 3 times have been really ding dong delicious. That Ruben is fabulous and the chicken soup today was the best I have ever had.
